What law firms charge (and what it should include)

Professional fees vary widely, so compare what each quote includes. A serious trademark quote should make clear whether it covers:

Be wary of a price that looks like a gift. If one quote is far below the rest, it usually leaves out the search and office action responses. A refused mark costs you the fees already paid and the time lost.

The real cost over 10 years

A well-kept trademark generates three IMPI payments in its first decade: the application, the declaration of use after year three (skip it and the registration lapses) and the renewal at year ten. For a single-class mark that adds up to roughly MXN 6,970 in official fees, before professional fees or disputes.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to register a trademark with IMPI in 2026?

The official fee is MXN 2,813.77 per class online and MXN 3,126.41 on paper, VAT included, plus professional fees if you use a firm.

Is the IMPI fee per trademark or per class?

Per class. If your mark needs protection in three classes, you pay the application fee three times.

Is the fee refunded if the mark is refused?

No. The fee pays for examination regardless of the outcome. That's why a clearance search is the best investment in the process.

Are there annual fees for trademarks in Mexico?

No. There are no annuities for trademarks. The later payments are the declaration of use after year three and the renewal every 10 years.
